The objective of the Association of Black Communicators (ABC) is to promote the advancement of minorities in the mass communication field. To strengthen the ties among African American communication specialists through service, scholarship, and mentorship. To provide an outlook on resources and professional development within the Manship School of Mass Communication.

President
Justin Franklin
Justin is a political communications junior from Memphis, Tennessee. He is a member of the Roger Hadfield Ogden Honors College as well as the Manship School of Mass Communication at LSU. He previously interned for Phil Breseden’s 2018 U.S. Senate campaign, as well as at AutoZone World Headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee. He currently serves as Vice President of LSU Mock Trial and President Elect of the Association of Black Communicators. He is also a member of LSU Gospel Choir.

Alaysia Johnson
Alaysia Johnson is a Political Communication student minoring in African and African American studies from Baltimore, MD. She is a Student Government Senator serving as the Chair of the committee on Student Life, Diversity and Community Outreach. Alaysia also serves as an LSU African American Cultural Center Ambassador and is also actively involved with Volunteer LSU. After graduation she plans on attending Law school to pursue a career in Civil Rights.

Mahogani Counts
Mahogani Counts is a political communication major from Atlanta, Georgia. Mahogani serves as an ambassador for the LSU Foundation Student Philanthropy Council. As a senator in LSU Student Government, she serves as the vice-chair on the committee for Academic Affairs. She’s also an active member within Student Activities Board and Volunteer LSU. In her spare time, she volunteers her time as a reading friend at Merrydale Elementary School. After graduation, Mahogani plans to attend law school and study immigration law and work on immigration reform policies.

Charles Steptoe III
Charles Steptoe III is a Mass Communication student double minoring in Business Admin. and Vocal Production from Dallas, Tx. He is a Student Reporter for the Campus News Station, Tiger TV. Charles is also actively involved with Volunteer LSU. After graduation he plans on attending Graduate School here at LSU to continue studying Journalism.

Amaya Lynch
Amaya Lynch is a senior Mass Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration. She is a from Houston, Texas and is currently active in PRSSA, NSCS and Phi Sigma Theta. She has previously interned with SMG Venue Management at NRG Park as a Marketing and PR intern. After graduating in May 2020, Amaya plans to pursue a masters is Corporate Communications.

Dr. Sheryl Kennedy Haydel
Sheryl Kennedy Haydel, Ph.D., APR is an award-winning public relations practitioner and scholar. Haydel’s communications career spans 25 years, including working in print journalism and higher education. She is a social media enthusiast and most recently served as the director of Communications and Marketing at Dillard University where Haydel led one of the most successful branding and public relations campaigns to celebrate the historically black institution’s sesquicentennial.
